PURPOSE:To shorten the document preparing time by providing a means for replacing all null characters within a designated range with a designated character such as a three-point leader by setting the kind of a leader ruled line and a range for generating the leader ruled line, at the time of generating a contents page and an index page. CONSTITUTION:In the case of making a contents page and an index page, first of all, a heading character-string and a page number are inputted. In the case an operator selects generantion of a leader ruled line, a leader ruled line instructing means 16 executes a request to a contorl means 15 so as to desingate a character used as a leader ruled line, and so instruct a range in a document for generating the leader ruled line by two points of a start point and an end point. A leader character and start point data and end point data of generation of the leader ruled line obtained from the control means 15 are informed to a leader ruled line generating means 17. Subsequently, the leader ruled line generating means 17 replaces a null character within a designated range on the document with the leader character, based on information from the leader ruled line instructing means 16. |
