PURPOSE: To carry out uniform dyeing with high dyeability by treating a heat- resistant fibrous material difficult to dye such as aromatic polyamide fibers or polybenzimidazole fibers with a dye bath containing a specific carrier. CONSTITUTION: A heat-resistant fibrous material which is excellent in heat resistance and difficult to dye such as aromatic polyamide fibers, polybenzimidazole fibers or aromatic polyimide fibers is treated at a high temperature in a dye bath containing an N-substituted aromatic carbonamide or an N,N-disubstituted aromatic carbonamide [e.g. N,N-diethyl (n-toluamide)] or a mixture thereof added to a dye liquor preferably containing, e.g. a cationic dye to carry out level dying of the fibers at a high concentration.
