Compound explosive of the compact type consisting of 90-95 % by weight of an RDX raw explosive, 5-10 % by weight of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin containing 10-20 % of acetate, and 0-0.5 % by weight of DOA or of graphite, and process for its manufacture. The process according to the invention includes a 1st stage of dissolving the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin in toluene to prepare a solution and a 2nd stage of injecting the solution into RDX dispersed in water, formation of a granular product from the mixture obtained and primary distillation of the product and, furthermore, a 3rd stage of addition of toluene to the product and secondary distillation of the product, the quantity of toluene added being from 1.0 to 3.0 times the quantity of the binder, measured after the primary distillation, so as to control the grain size of the final product.
