Floor covering elements (I), in the form of blocks, boards, parquet etc., made of wood, chipboard etc., with a plastic film (II) fixed to the upper surface with a layer of adhesive (IIA), and with jointing tongues and/or grooves at the sides; (II) is 160-1000 microns thick, with at least 3 layers of films comprising (A) an upper transparent layer 100-800 microns thick based on polyolefin with little or no filler, (B) lower layer(s) based on polyolefin and 10-150 pts. wt. inorganic filler(s) and/or pigment(s) (pre 100 pts. wt. polymer) and (C) a layer of adhesive (C1), coupling agent (C2) and/or reactant (C3) between (A) and (B). Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of (I), by coating the blocks etc. with adhesive (IIA) and applying preformed film (II) by roller laminating at 10-100 (pref. 15-40) deg.C or by using a platen press. Adhesive (IIA) is based on formaldehyde resin, UF, MF or PF resin and/or other thermosetting adhesives, or on a dispersion adhesive, pref. with layer thickness (dry)= 0.005-0.9 (pref. 0.015-0.6) mm. USE/ADVANTAGE - It provides flooring elements covered with a hard-wearing film (II) which has improved properties, esp. good resistance to deformation and good adhesion, combined with good chemical resistance, workability, tread resistance, scratch resistance etc., and the ability to hide underlying chipboard etc., by means of pigments, fillers or patterns.
