The coin-operated amusement machine has a random number generator coupled to a control device for providing corresponding symbols defining a winning or losing signal combination, each wing being totalised by a money, or serial play counter. The playing time is recorded by a further counter which counts backwards from an initial value to an end value to activate the random number generator control device and provide the symbols for the next play. A win evaluation device determines the value of a winning combination, with the credit counter checked upon detection of a losing combination before the next play cycle is allowed.
