A suspension system for a vehicle having a torsion spring (30) interconnecting the wheels and axle (4) to spaced portions of the frame (3) via suspension arms (32,33) wherein each suspension arm has one end secured to one element of the torsion spring and its other end connected to one end portion of a torsion type shackle (45). The other end of the shackle has its outer shell connected to the vehicle frame via replaceable shims (58) that adjust the height of the vehicle frame relative to the axle and the ground. <IMAGE>
