Method of operating machines, in particular workshop equipment, which is controlled using signals which are initiated by an operator. The operator carries a transmitter which transits signals to a receiver which converts the signals into control signals for the machine. The activation of the transmitter is carried out using a device which is attached to the operator and is operated by movements of the operator's hand.
