<p>A directional radar antenna (1) transmits and receives impulse waveforms and includes a feed element (2) terminating in a load (3). The feed element supplies the impulse waveform to a plurality of co-planar spaced apart radiating elements (4). Radiating elements (4) are non-resonant for the highest significant frequency component of the impulse waveform. The duration of the impulses ranges from several nano seconds to the order of one hundred pico seconds. The antenna (1) is applied in a radar system which also includes an impulse generator and receiving means to provide an indication of distance to a target.</p> |
