A hydrocarbon synthesis catalyst comprising cobalt and rhenium on a support containing titania (preferably more than 50 wt.% TiO2) and having a volumetric productivity (in cm<3> CO conversion/h/cm<3> catalyst) for hydrocarbon synthesis from H2 and CO greater than about 500 when measured in a test at 200 DEG C and a hydrogen:carbon monoxide ratio of 2:1.
