Prodn. of pptd. silica with a cleaning, polishing and thickening action in dentifrices is effected by mixing conventionally prepd. pptd. silicas with different particle sizes and densities in the form of a slurry, and processing the slurry by filtration, washing, drying and grinding. Also claimed are pptd. silicas characterised in terms of their physicochemical properties. Pref. silicas used are (A) a thickener-type silica prepd. as described in DE1467019; (B) an abrasive-type silica prepd. as described in DE3114493, example 10; and (C) a silica with a low Fe content prepd. as described in DE 1293138, example 1. Combinations of (A)+(B), (A)+(C) and (B)+(C) may also be used.
