A method for the measuring of large objects having a complex space structure, specifically the frames of railway trucks, by positioning the object within the measuring space of the stand, measuring the stand coordinates of the respective characteristic points of the object and by causing the given point to be in contact with the tip of the measuring head with three degrees of freedom that are in harmony with the stand coordinate system x, y, z, the stand coordinates of the location of the measuring tip being determined from signals being sent from rotary-and-pulse relays to a computer which has a numerical model of the measured object uploaded in it, whereupon the actual dimensions and deviations are computed by the computer, wherein, whatever the location of the object within the measurement space, the stand coordinates x, y, z are determined, to begin with, in at least three points having known locations on the measured object based on which the computer (14) finds analytically a formula for the transformation of the stand coordinates x, y, z into the object coordinates xp, yp, zp, whereupon further measurements are made in any sequence selected and are transformed by the computer (14) into the object coordinates xp, yp, zp, whereas the actual dimensions and deviations are computed following verification of the completeness of the measurements determined in the numerical model of the object.<IMAGE>
