PURPOSE:To obtain a luminous body of high strength and easy to handle by heating and treating a pellet of pressed compact of metal halide in the required atmosphere, and sealing the treated compact in a luminous tube. CONSTITUTION:The powder of metal halide such as NaI is formed into a pellet with a pressing process, and the pellet so formed is heated and treated in a high degree of vacuum. According to the aforesaid process, it is possible to obtain a luminous body to be sealed in the luminous tube of a metal vapor discharge lamp, while ensuring freedom from a volatile impurity, high strength and easy handling without crushing. |
