Pipe joint has an inner supporting sleeve (3) with a centre sealing shoulder (10) defining at least one ribbed (10) sealing region (4). To make the joint, a compression sleeve (6) is deformed by a pressure ring (7) with an internal cone which extends the full length of the ring. The front part (11) of the internal cone blends with the rear part of the cone (11a). The compression sleeve (6) can have a recess (12) to match the front part of the internal cone (11). The front cone (11) can have an angle of 15-25 deg. (pref. 20 deg.C), the rear cone (11a) and angle of 2-8 deg. (pref. 5 deg.). USE/ADVANTAGE - By distributing the deformation of the compression sleeve over its whole length, local loads on the pipe are minimised. .
