Catalytic material for purificn. of IC engine exhaust fumes, and formed of noble metal particles initially held in suspension, is applied, e.g. as a wash-coat, to a honeycomb body whose individual channels (2) are of rectangular cross-section, with a width:height ratio of 1.5-15. Widths are about 3-8mm, and height 0.65-0.9mm. The channels are formed as stamped corrugations in a metal strip before backing with a smooth unstamped strip. The corrugations may project alternately from opposite main faces of the formed strip. They may extend obliquely across the width of a given strip, andintersect with similar corrugations at a different angle in the strip below. Alternatively, the corrugations may be arrow-heads pointing along the strip length.
