The present invention relates to a method of successively decreasing the mercury content of a fully or partially sealed tip intended for the controlled tipping of mercury contaminated material, and at the same time preventing the uncontrolled emission of mercury from the tip, comprising ventilating the tip with a controlled quantity of purgative air and passing the whole of the purgative air flow leaving the tip through a filter capable of effectively taking-up mercury. |
