<p>PURPOSE:To improve data writing/reading process efficiency of the large capacity storage device by housing an optical disk cartridge in a cell in the vicinity of a drive device and a loading/ejecting mechanism, and transferring to another cell when containing of the optical disk cartridge fails. CONSTITUTION:When transfer of the recording medium from a recording reproducing part 25 or loading/ejecting mechanism 14 to a specified cell is instructed to a medium movement control part 23 by a superior device 18, the recording medium is housed in a selected vacant cell existing in a position where transportation can be carried out at the minimum distance from the recording reproducing part 25 or the loading/ejecting mechanism 14, referring to contents of a memory 24. Then, if housing of the recording medium to the selected vacant cell fails, the next vacant cell existing in the position where transportation can be carried at the minimum referring to the contents of the memory 24. Thus, the efficiency of the data writing/reading process of the large quantity storing device is improved.</p> |
