PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of recording density due to a lowering in the remaining amount of an ink by providing a detecting means for detecting the remaining amount of the ink on a multi-strike ink ribbon and a recording means for changing the recording number according to the remaining amount of the ink to effect printing. CONSTITUTION:An ink density detector 30 detects the remaining amount of the ink on an ink ribbon 9 by applying current to between contacting wires 31 and 32 and measuring the resistance value across the width of an ink ribbon 9 based on the strength of an electric current flowing therethrough. Before the start of recording action, it is checked on whether or not the resistance value of the ink ribbon 9 is smaller than the value of Jx. If so, the recording is continued at the current recording speed. When the detected resistance value is larger than Jx and the recording density is expected to be lower than Ix, to enhance the recording density, the number of the recording is increased and the recording is effected by impacting a plurality of times. The input of the next recording instructions from a keyboard 211 is awaited. |
