Carburettor air reverser. A carburettor of the type with a slide and measuring rod is characterised by the provision of a means for preventing the reversal or backflow of air from the outlet end (16) of the body of the carburettor (12) from passing the metering rod (50) in order to prevent the backflow of air from contaminating or from drawing excess fuel into the air/fuel mixture. This obstruction means may comprise either a flanged tubular ring (92) located inside the outlet end (16), or a surface with decreasing cross-section of an insert located next to the strangler slide (44) of the carburettor. Alternatively, the body may comprise a plurality of recesses extending towards the rear and towards the inside close to the outlet end of the latter in order to prevent the backflow of contaminated air from flowing out after the metering rod. Openings (98) may be provided in the obstruction means in order to reverse the backflow of air in the flow of the air/fuel mixture towards the rear of the metering rod and towards the outlet end of the carburettor. <IMAGE>
