<p>PURPOSE:To form an optical neural computer using an optical bistable element for threshold processing by using the optical bistable element having reflection type differential characteristics for a threshold processing means and removing reflected light on the end face of the optical bistable element. CONSTITUTION:Only a light component parallel with a polarizer 23 out of incident light is transmitted by the polarizer, bent by a beam splitter 22 and made incident upon the optical bistable element 21. When the incident light exceeds a prescribed threshold, the element outputs light. Simultaneously with the incidence of light upon the element 21, the incident light is reflected on the end face of the element 21 and light mixing both the incident light and output light is transmitted through the beam splitter 22. The light transmitted through the splitter 22 is passed through the polarizer 24, but the output light from the element 21 is non-polarized light, the output light is transmitted through the polarizer 24 and only the reflected component of the incident light is removed. Thereby, only the output light of the element 21 becomes the input light of the succeeding hieararchy and accurate operation can be executed.</p> |
