PURPOSE:To miniaturize an inflator and to achieve light weight and downsizing of a whole system by forming plural or many independent hollow cylinders which are almost parallel to one edge of a nearly rectangular bag body and whose end parts are communicated with each other, and connecting both ends thereof to each other. CONSTITUTION:In a cylindrical air bag A, when jetted gas is delivered to an air bag A by operation of an inflator 9, the jetted gas is delivered into respective hollow cylinders 5a, 4a, 5b, 4b, 4c... via a communication passage 6 in the air bag A, and because of expansion of the respective hollow cylinders 5a, 4a, 5b, 4b, 4c... the cylindrical air bag A whole body expands instantaneously to absorb a shock of a passenger. The respective hollow cylinders 5a, 4a, 5b, 4b, 4c... are communicated with each other except adjoining hollow cylinders and end portions being communicating parts, and are independent so as to reduce practical volume of the cylindrical air bag A. Since end portions of the respective hollow cylinders are communicated with those of adjacent hollow cylinders, as repletion is so rapid that the air bag A is expanded instantaneously. |
