Compounds of the general formula (n = 4 or 5) and their acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula and/or with nitric acid, optionally followed by salt formation and/or isomer separation. The starting materials are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with benzyl magnesium chloride and hydrolysing the product, optionally followed by dehydration. The preparation of the substituted benzophenones and p-(4-chlorobutyl)-benzoic acid, p - (4 - chlorobutyl) - p<SP>1</SP> - methoxybenzophenone, 5 - (p - bromophenyl) - valeronitrile, 5 - (p - bromophenyl) - valeric acid, 5 - (p - bromophenyl) - pentanol, 1 - bromo - 5 - (p - bromophenyl) - pentane and 5 - (p - bromophenyl) - 1 - dimethylaminopentane is described. The above compounds are antiprogestational, antifertility and hypocholesteraamic agents, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier. |
