The invention relates to a process for the preparation of monoazo dyes which react with fibres having the formula I <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2 have the meanings specified in the claims, which comprises reaction between the salt obtained by the diazotization of an amine of formula II <IMAGE> with a compound of formula III <IMAGE> The compounds so obtained have application in the operations of dyeing or printing organic substrates containing hydroxy or nitrogen groups, for example leather or fibrous materials comprising natural or synthetic polyamides, or natural or regenerated cellulose, especially cotton.
