On machine tools, it is often necessary to couple the tool holder and thus the tool in its sequence of movement directly to the rotational speed of the workpiece, that is, to perform certain sequences of movement per workpiece rotation. On machine tools with a workpiece rotational speed dependent upon the workpiece diameter, for example on underfloor wheel lathes, the workpiece rotational speed is not known. In addition, it changes during the machining of the workpiece. Nonetheless, in order to achieve the desired synchronization, it is proposed that means be provided for determining the amount of time required for rotation of the workpiece, which means interact with at least one arrangement for influencing the movement of at least one mobile device in such a way that the said influencing takes place as a function of the determined amount of time required.
