Field of application. An overhead handling device (reference 13) includes several lifting movements. The balance arm (reference 6) is suspended from the lifting lengths. It includes a device for grasping the load (reference 11). The load may be a component, a container of components, tooling, or an association of components and tooling. Subject. Several coordinated lifting movements, guided by sensors, are used in order to take up, to handle, and to position a load. The sensors fixed to the balance arm serve to measure the horizontality of each load (reference 3), the tensile force in the lifting lengths (reference 2) and the position of the balance arm in space (reference 1). In a basic version, the load is inclined in order to obtain positional correction in the horizontal plane. Figure 3-1 represents a perspective view of the device. A variant with 3 or 4 additional movements makes it possible to make the translational movements independent with respect to the rotational movements of the balance arm.
