<p>Disclosed are a printer control device and a method for controlling a printer that are useful for printers capable of working with multiple paper sources and/or multiple types of paper. By means of the invention, any desired combination of paper detectors (1, 2, 3) that detect the presence or absence of paper in a printer can be selected by control commands from the host computer (7). This makes it possible to stop printing operation of the printer based only on the condition of paper detectors required at that time.
