A double-layer fabric for a stretch covering for paper machines has weft threads 1b of the upper layer, weft threads 1a of the lower layer and warp threads 2 joining the two layers, in each case two adjacent warp threads 2a, 2b jointly tying off the lower weft thread 1a on the underside of the fabric. The two warp threads 2c and 2d running next to these two warp threads 2a and 2b on both sides run, in this region of the fabric, as individual threads above the upper weft thread 1b. This ensures sheet-like support on the underside, but, on the paper side, maintains a structure which is more favourable for paper formation.

|
