Leak detection and location in waste water transport piping, pref. comprising polyethylene-sheathed ductile cast iron pipes, is carried out by impressing, on the waste water flow, a potential which produces a characteristic potential or elapsed time pattern along the entire pipeline including its ends and connection points, the pattern changing when a leak is present so that the leak and its location can be detected. ADVANTAGE - The method is adapted to mass produced pipes and involves no additional installation costs during pipe-laying. (1/1)
