When an AC adapter (29) and a battery (48) are connected to a system, the rapid charge for the battery (48) is started. During the rapid charge, the battery voltage of the battery (48) is detected by a voltage detector (62). A power supply controller (50) samples the detected battery voltage at predetermined sampling times, thereby to monitor changes in the battery voltage.
