PURPOSE:To provide the subject base oil comprising the esters of a neopentyl polyol with a specific fatty acid mixture, having good oxidative stability and hydrolytic stability and capable of being employed as a synthetic resin plasticizer, a lubricant, a mold release agent, an electric insulating oil, a freezer oil, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective base oil comprises the esters of (A) a neopentyl polyol with (B) a fatty acid mixture containing >=10mol% (preferably >=30mol%) of a tertiary fatty acid of the formula [R is 1-8C (preferably 1-4C) alkyl; R<1>, R<2> are methyl or ethyl]. The reaction of the component A with the component B is preferably performed in a ratio of 0.9-1.1 equivalent of the component B per equivalent of the hydroxyl group of the component A. |
