PURPOSE:To enable obtaining of the subject sintered compact excellent in high- temperature strength and toughness at a low cost by containing a specific amount of alpha-type SiC in the subject sintered compact formed by using prescribed plural elements (a compound containing the elements) as a sintering assistant. CONSTITUTION:A sintered compact is obtained by containing 20-50vol.% alpha-type SiC in the subject sintered compact (e.g. a sintered compact prepared by mixing beta-type SiC powder with a phenolic resin and boron carbide, forming the resultant mixture and sintering the formed compact under prescribed conditions) formed by using C (a compound containing the C) and B (a compound containing the B) as a sintering assistant. |
