A pyrazolopyridine compound of the following formula: wherein R<1> is aryl, and R<2> is amino(lower)alkyl; lower alkylamino(lower)alkyl; carboxy(lower)alkylamino(lower)alkyl; protected carboxy(lower)alkylamino(lower)alkyl; lower alkylamino(lower)alkyl having hydroxy and aryloxy; protected amino(lower)alkyl; cyano(lower)alkyl; cyano(higher)alkyl; lower alkyl having heterocyclic group, in which heterocyclic group may have one or more suitable substituent(s); higher alkyl having heterocyclic group, in which heterocyclic group may have one or more suitable substituent(s); ar(lower)alkyl; lower alkenyl; or heterocyclic group which may have one or more suitable substituent(s), and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, processes for their preparation and pharmaceutical compositions comprising them as an active ingredient in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.
