A bar grate and the method of making the same. The bar grate includes a reticulated grate made from a unitary flat sheet and a plurality of lengthwise extending and transversely spaced bars fastened thereto within saddles formed during the making of the reticulated grate. The saddles include projecting tab portions which are folded over and retain the bars in the grate so that no additional fastening is required.
