A turnip cropping machine has a collecting bunker (6) with an emptying conveyor (12) whose drive shaft (21) is activated by motors (22,23). A switch element (24), associated with a time switch, operates the motor's rotation from a slow speed with high starting torque to a faster emptying rotation with minimal torque. USE/ADVANTAGE - The variable speed starting slow prevents turnips from getting jammed in the conveyor.
