Vane type compressor comprises an outer stator ring (10) and a rotor (11) enclosing a working area (12,13) with a radial width which varies int he direction of rotation. The rotor (11) has several vanes (20) which extend parallel to the rotor axis (16) and slide radially. A reduction in compressor wt. and operational noise isachieved, together with lower friction between the vanes (20) and the stator ring (10) by mfg. the stator ring (10) in aluminium alloy and the vanes in a carbon fibre reinforced polyether-ether ketone with a 'Teflon' (RTM) filler. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compressor is used for cooling, has low wt. with quiet operation, reduced friction between vanes and stator which increases efficiency and has a cast aluminium stator which is easier to mfr.
