Supplying liq. coolant to grinding work - feeds coolant by nozzle to contact zone between grinding wheel and workpiece

The liq. coolant (28) is supplied to an orbitting work (14), ground by a rotary grinding wheel (12). The coolant is supplied to a contact zone (16) between the work and the grinding wheel a nozzle (26). The layer of air (34) round the grinding wheel and/or the workpiece, which moves round with them and would impede the work of the coolant, is exhausted by a pump (44). The layer of air is pref. exhausted via a funnel (42), which surrounds part of the outer surface of the grinding wheel. ADVANTAGE - Increased cooling efficiency without extra coolant atomising.
