<p>The test equipment tests, in particular remotely, an item of data terminal equipment with multiple access line (LS) to a D signalling channel by means of a tester to be connected to the terminal equipment across any data transport network, ISDN or analog. Two items of test equipment are thus connected up to access paths (LV) of the network connecting the terminal and the tester. An item of test equipment comprises an MS module for processing the useful address and control bits of the D channel of the multiplex line (LS), a module (AD) for adapting the throughput of the D channel to that of the network access path (LV) and vice versa, and a module (MV) for inserting the useful bits of the D channel into the HDLC frames of the network access path (LV) and conversely in order to extract them.
