1292246 Latches EWALD WITTE & CO 20 July 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 33943/71 Heading E2A The bifurcated latch bolt 20 of a vehicle door is fastened by a lever-detent 25 which may be rocked clockwise to the releasing position by axial movement of a push-rod 9 under pressure from end 6 of a manually operated lever 5 acting on arm 7 on the rod, this rod also having a forked arm 8 at its end by means of which it may be rotated to an ineffective position by a crank-pin 10 projecting from a barrel lock 4 or by means of an internal actuator rod 19. In the unlocked condition, inward movement of the rod 9 causes a projection 32 on the rod to abut a projection 25'' on the lever to rock it to the bolt-releasing position, spring 24 then turning the bolt anticlockwise to free the striker from slot 21. The push-rod 9 may be rotated by the key-operated lock, as described, and also by a toothed gear link (not visible) connecting this rod to a rocker 30 operated by internal actuator rod 19. When rotated to its locking position, the projection 32 fails to engage the projection 25"' on the latching lever 25. A cam surface 31 on the rocker 30 engages the arm 25" of the lever 25 to enable the door to be released from the inside even when locked from the outside. If the door is slammed when locked, a plate 28 coupled to the lever 25, rises to abut a pin 27 projecting from the shaft to rotate it to the unlocked condition in which it is capable of displacing the lever 25.
|
