A control and drive system 3 for a cross-cutting saw at the end of a beam of a tree-felling machine is arranged to control a motor M which is operated by pressure medium and which is in force-transmitting communication with the saw, and to which a line L is connected which is in turn connected to a pressure medium source P and has control members for controlling the flow therein. The control members are placed in a part located at the end of the beam and supporting the saw, and they comprise a steplessly adjustable flow control valve 2 which regulates the amount of pressure medium in the line L, a pressure compensator 4 and a pilot line branching off from the flow control valve 2, and a pilot valve 1 arranged therein.
