1430776 Separating actinide elements BAYER AG 7 Sept 1973 [9 Sept 1972 13 Oct 1972] 42089/73 Heading C1A The actinide elements are separated from one another and/or other metals by extraction from an aqueous solution with a synthetic resin containing an extractant or extractants. The resin may be a vinyl resin and may be prepared by copolymerization of a poly-vinyl and a mono-vinyl compound in the presence of the extractant. The extractant may be a trialkyl phosphate (preferred for use with solutions containing CL- or NO 3 -) trialkyl phosphinoxide, triaryl phosphinoxide, aliphatic primary, secondary or tertiary amine or quaternary ammonium salt (preferred for use with solutions containing SO 4 -) dialkyl phosphate, alkane dialkyl phosphonate or dialkane alkyl phosphinate. Solutions of UO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 , U(NO 3 ) 4 , UO 2 SO 4 and Th(NO 3 ) 4 are exemplified. Other metals except Au may be present. Elution may be with dilute mineral acids, NaHCO 3 or ammonium carbonate solutions or water, after washing with HNO 3 (or H 2 SO 4 in the case of amine containing resins). |
