PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate far functional materials in high yield by hydrogenating an alkenylsuccinic acid anhydride in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II can be produced by adding hydrogen (preferably under a hydrogen pressure of 5kg/cm<2>G) to a compound of formula I ((n) is 0-21) in the presence of preferably 0.05-0.5 wt.% of a compound selected from rhodium (e.g. rhodium chloride), palladium (e.g. palladium chloride) and platinum (e.g. platinum oxide). |
