The ladder comprises several identical ladder sections (11 to 15) connected at their ends by means of linking mechanisms (4, 5). Each mechanism comprises a connecting rod (4) which allows two consecutive sections to pass from a position in which they are parallel and adjacent, used to fold the ladder "accordion style", to a position in which they are in alignment, used when the ladder is deployed when it is to be used. A sleeve (5) is movable between a position away from the connecting rod (ladder folded up) and a position in which it covers the connecting rod, when the ladder is unfolded, so that it locks the ladder sections once they are in alignment. Application to a ladder which can be transported as an item of hand luggage, and which can be folded up and unfolded rapidly. <IMAGE>
