The invention relates to a device for triggering the brake (43) of a lift car (16), of the type comprising a pulley (10) equipped with a speed limiter capable of locking the rotation of the pulley in the event of overspeed of the car. The pulley (10) is equipped at its periphery (12) with a friction material via which it runs on one of the rails (14) serving to guide the car in terms of vertical movement, the spindle (18) of the wheel swivelling in a connection piece (20) with a slideway suspended with the aid of at least one elastic means (28) from a support (30) secured to the car, the said connection piece with a slideway having at least one vertical oblong slot (32, 34) through which at least one guide finger (36, 38) secured to the support freely passes, the moving equipment formed by the connection piece and the wheel being connected via linkage (44) to the said brake (43). <IMAGE>
