PURPOSE:To obtain a thermoplastic composite with a const. crosssectional shape by a method wherein a combined fiber consisting of a reinforcing fiber and a thermoplastic fiber is heated up to a temp. where the thermoplastic fiber is melted and is passed between a pair of fitting and pressing rolls. CONSTITUTION:A combined fiber consisting of a reinforcing fiber and a thermoplastic fiber with a degree of combination of 20% or more is heated up to a temp. where the thermoplastic fiber is melted and passed between a pair of fitting and pressing rolls to prepare a composite with a const. cross-sectional shape. As the reinforcing fiber, carbon fiber, glass fiber, aramide fiber are cited, but it is necessary that no thermal damage is received thereon at the lower limiting melting temp. of the thermoplastic resin. As the thermoplastic fiber, such a fiber as fibers based on nylon, polypropylene, polyester and polyether ether ketone is cited. By this method, it is possible to obtain a thermoplastic composite wherein the reinforcing fiber is impregnated continuously, efficiently and without ununiformity with a thermoplastic resin and having excellent reinforcing effect and a const. crosssectional shape. |
