PURPOSE:To improve the production efficiency by providing an electrifying device in the process of depositing SiO2 fine particles on the seed rod by supplying the gaseous starting material in a burner flame, and electrifying the fine particles and/or the seed rod so that the fine particles can efficiently be deposited on the seed rod. CONSTITUTION:The SiO2 fine particles are produced by supplying the gaseous starting material in the flame 3 of a burner 2, and then deposited on the seed rod 1 to form the porous base material 4 for optical fiber. In this process, electrifying devices 7, 8 are provided to electrify the particles and/or seed rod into positive or negative polarity. Thereby, the fine particles are efficiently deposited uniformly to the longitudinal direction of the seed rod 1. |
