Device consists of a tube-like structure with open ends, with the comestible product contained within the structure. This comestible product has a porous lattice structure and dissolves when it comes in contact with the liquid. The tubular part of the device may be made of paper or plastic. The comestible may be aspartame and its salts, saccharin, cyclamate, acesulfam K, aspirin, spironolactone or vitamins. In the preparation a measured amount of a soln. of (I) in a suitable solvent is introduced into the tube-like structure and then cooled to cause crystallisation to form a porous lattice structure. The excess solvent is then removed. Suitable solvents include hot water or hot water-methanol in the case of aspartame, and water-methanol-isopropanol (ratio 2:2:40 to 6:5:80) for sodium saccharin.
