In repairing a broken yarn, at a two-for-one twisting machine, if the repair sequence fails to splice the broken yarn, then the splicing action is repeated. The broken ends are untwisted to open them out and then twisted together in a splicing action to join the upper and lower ends. The lower yarn section is clamped after insertion into the splicer. The splicer can test the splice and, if the join has not been successfully completed, the splicer is instructed to repeat the splicing action, while the broken yarn end from the twister is still clamped in the splicing appts. ADVANTAGE - The technique gives an automatic yarn repair operation, which requires less labour and is simpler, and increases the effectiveness of the appts.
