PURPOSE:To easily obtain titanium diboride fibers by bringing titanium diboride obtd. by bringing gaseous starting material into a reaction at a prescribed temp. into contact with a growth substrate with a supported catalyst and growing titanium diboride fibers. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst selected among Ti, Ni, Cu, Rh, Pd, Ag, Pt and Au is supported on a growth substrate. A geseous mixture of titanium tetrachloride with hydrogen is prepd. as gaseous starting material and brought into a reaction at 900-1,300 deg.C to form titanium diboride. This titanium diboride is brought into contact with the growth substrate and titanium diboride fibers are grown. |
