ROBOT ARRANGEMENT FOR SPRAY COATING AND METHOD A polar coordinate robot manipulates a spray gun to spray coat a workpiece. The robot is mounted at a level above that of the workpiece. The workpiece is conveyed toward and beneath the robot and at least an upper surface of the workpiece is spray coated as it passes through a work envelope of the robot. The arrangement is advantageous for coating a workpiece that has an elongate upper surface and that is conveyed through the work envelope with the length of its upper surface extending generally perpendicular to its direction of travel.
