The invention relates to an electrically activated bottle jack which includes a support base (7), a casing (4), a jack body (1), a lifting member (2) housed in the latter, a servo (3) enclosed in the casing, a set of reduction gears comprising first and second sets of planetary gearing and a cylinder forming a toothed sun wheel, for transmitting drive power from the servo to the lifting member, and a safety device equipped with a clutch disc (31), with a clutch engagement spring (32), and with a sleeve (bush) (33). A rod (16) with a square head intended to be actuated manually is also provided. This design makes it possible to increase the drive power of the servo and to prevent abrupt failure of the latter and of the power transmission mechanism in the event of the jack being overloaded. <IMAGE>
