In a range change gearbox of the planetary gear type (2) for vehicles, a sun wheel (3) is driven by an output shaft from a main gearbox, a planet carrier (8) being rigidly connected in rotation with an output shaft (9) of the range change gearbox. To engage a low ratio group of the range change gearbox, a ring gear (6) is connected with a casing (1) by means of a sliding sleeve (25). In direct drive, the sliding sleeve (25) connects the ring gear (6) with the planet carrier (8). Constructional costs should be reduced by using a single-piece synchronizer ring (22). Said single-piece synchronizer ring is effective in both shift directions and co-operates by means of its two friction faces (23) with bevel faces (18 and 19) on the gearbox casing (1) and on the planet carrier (8).
